Blåvand is the westernmost point of Denmark and a beach straight out of a picture book: fine, wide sand, with groynes and a sandbank in front that break the very biggest surf. That is exactly what makes Blåvand a friendly wave spot, where beginners learn the wave, while with southwest it also gets properly going.

A wave with a safety net
The sandbank out front and the groynes take the bite out of the North Sea wave, so Blåvand is also manageable for wave beginners, especially when the wind stands shore-parallel. With southwest, on the other hand, the wave builds up to two metres, and then it is a playground for the experienced.
Our impression: Blåvand is our tip for a gentle introduction to waves on the North Sea. The wide beach, the constant breeze, plus the lighthouse and the dunes, that is Denmark just as you picture it.

Constant wind, wide beach

As the westernmost tip of the country, Blåvand gets the wind first, so it blows correspondingly reliably. There is more than enough room on the wide beach, so kiters, windsurfers and wave riders spread out nicely. Even with southeast you can still kite here.
Getting there and sleeping
Blåvand is easily reached by car, with a large beach car park right at the spot. There are plenty of holiday homes and campsites, the whole corner thrives on holidaymaking. Whether there is enough wind today is revealed by the wind check.
