Croatia is the Mediterranean spot with the most reliable afternoon wind , above all Bol on the island of Brač with its famous Zlatni Rat, the “Golden Horn”. Turquoise water, thermal wind and the scent of pines , a classic for windsurfing and wing.
Profile
| Best time to visit | May to September |
| Wind | thermal Maestral from the west, very reliable in the afternoon |
| Water | Adriatic, clear and warm (over 20 °C in summer) |
| Level | beginner to advanced |
| Area | Bol/Brač (Zlatni Rat), plus Viganj near Orebić |
The area
The Zlatni Rat, a pointed pebble spit, splits the wind into two sides , ideal for finding the right corner. The thermal Maestral builds in the morning and blows strongly in the afternoon. The second top spot is Viganj on the Pelješac peninsula opposite Korčula.
Who & when
From May to September the Maestral is most reliable , perfect for windsurfing and wing, with schools on site. Mornings are often calm (good for practice or SUP), the wind comes in the afternoon. Hard to beat for a Mediterranean summer with guaranteed wind.
Good to know
Kiting is restricted on many Croatian beaches , check the permitted zones; the focus is windsurfing and wing. Pebbles are kinder to the feet with shoes, and the Zlatni Rat is busy with swimmers in high summer.
Our impression
Bol is postcard Croatia with wind: coffee in the sun in the morning, Maestral in the afternoon. If you love the Mediterranean and want reliable thermal wind without a long flight, you’re spot on here.
