France , Atlantic waves and Leucate

Kitesurfing in France , Atlantic waves in Brittany and the wind-reliable lagoon of Leucate on the Mediterranean

France is two watersport worlds in one country. In the west stands the rugged Atlantic with powerful winds and real waves, in the south the sunny Mediterranean lagoon of Leucate , extremely wind-reliable and with calm flat water. If you want both, you do not have to choose.

The area

La Torche in Brittany is a wave spot with the full force of the Atlantic , powerful wind and open sea. Leucate on the Mediterranean is its counterpart , the Étang offers waist-deep flat water behind the coast and is extremely wind-reliable thanks to the Tramontane. Two areas, two completely different characters.

Who & when

The flat water at the Étang de Leucate is ideal for all levels , a relaxed place to learn and practise. The Atlantic waves at La Torche are more for advanced riders who enjoy wind and swell. The best season runs from spring into autumn.

Good to know

The Atlantic water stays rather cool even in summer, so a suitable wetsuit belongs in your bag. On the Mediterranean the water is warmer and the Tramontane provides reliable wind. If you plan flexibly, you can combine both areas depending on the weather.

Our impression

France wins us over with its variety , rugged Atlantic in the west, sunny lagoon in the south. The wind reliability, especially at Leucate, makes the country easy to plan and dependable. For us it is a destination with something for every level and every mood.
