A gentle start
The long sandy beach at Marielyst slopes gently into the water, and numerous sandbars create standing-depth areas. That makes getting started easy, you can walk far out and practise in peace. If you want more, head to the south of the island to Gedser, where it is considerably more demanding.
Our take: when someone is starting from scratch, we happily send them to Marielyst. The beach is so long there is always room, the water is flat, and everything around is geared towards holidays.

Getting there and staying over
Marielyst is easy to reach from northern Germany by car, and behind the beach you’ll find one campsite and holiday home after another. A classic family water-sports destination.
