Where the Schlei flows into the Baltic Sea lie Olpenitz and Schleimünde. The old naval harbour has become a holiday resort with a marina and a long beach, and behind it the quiet Schleimünde with its pilot island. Shallow water, plenty of space and wind from the west, a friendly area for learning and gliding.

Wind and water
With west to northwest winds the wind comes cleanly onshore onto the long beach at Olpenitz. Near the shore the water is shallow, and further out some swell builds up depending on the wind. The Schlei estuary is calmer, but can carry a current, so take care with offshore wind.
Our impression: Olpenitz has come into its own, the new marina brings life, the beach is long and the wind reliable. Schleimünde next door is the contrast programme, almost deserted, a piece of the old Baltic Sea.

Getting there and sleeping
At the Port Olpenitz holiday resort there is accommodation and pitches right by the water, plus campsites all around the Schlei. Ideal for combining watersports with a relaxed holiday.
