Windsurf foiling brings the gliding into light wind. Where classic windsurfing has long since stalled, the foil lifts you out of the water and you draw your lines silently. You know the rig from windsurfing, board and foil are added. Here is the packing list.

What matters
For foiling you need a foilboard and a windsurf foil, plus ideally a few lighter, steady sails that build pressure even in light wind. The start feels wobbly at first, then it suddenly floats, a wonderful feeling. Helmet and impact protection are part of it.
First purchases with examples based on body weight
With windsurf foiling you keep your familiar rig and combine it with a high-volume foilboard and a high-lift foil. Honest reference values for getting started, brands measure slightly differently:
| Body weight | Board volume | Front wing (foil) | Sail size | Mast |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| approx. 45 kg | approx. 110–130 L | approx. 1500–1800 cm² | approx. 4.5–5.5 m² | 75–85 cm |
| approx. 65 kg | approx. 130–150 L | approx. 1800–2000 cm² | approx. 5.0–6.0 m² | 85–90 cm |
| approx. 85 kg | approx. 150–170 L | approx. 2000–2400 cm² | approx. 6.0–7.0 m² | 90 cm |
| approx. 100 kg | approx. 170–190 L | approx. 2200–2500 cm² | approx. 6.5–7.5 m² | 90 cm |
For the start the rule is: better a large, tip-stable board and a rather large front wing that takes off early and slowly. A light, steady freeride foil sail builds pressure even in light wind, which is exactly what windsurf foiling is made for.
Care
Rinse foil, mast base and screws with fresh water after every session. Sand and salt are the enemy of every connection. Once per season retighten everything, then the setup stays free of play and safe.
Rig standing, foil fitted, list right? Then out you go, even in light wind. Whether it is enough today is shown by the Wind Check, and the other packing lists are already waiting.
