Fanø

Wide beach on the island of Fanø

The island of Fanø off Esbjerg is a water sports legend: a beach miles long and wide, a dedicated stretch of around three kilometres just for kiters and windsurfers, plus land yachts and kite buggies on shore. Flat Wadden Sea water, plenty of wind, plenty of room, beginners and pros alike find their groove here.

Three kilometres just for you

On the west side a stretch of beach around three kilometres long is reserved for kiters and windsurfers, complemented on shore by land yachts and kite buggies. You rarely find so much designated room. The beach is drivable, the water flat or with a wave depending on the tide.

Our impression: For us, Fanø is one of the most relaxed big spots of all. So much room that nothing gets in anyone’s way, and an island feeling that carries you through the whole day.

Where you may not go

Protected natural areas of the island
The east side and the tips stay with nature.

Fanø lies in the middle of the UNESCO Wadden Sea, and that comes with obligations. The east side of the island and both tips are nature reserve, kiting is banned there. Stick to the designated west beach and the island stays a paradise for birds and athletes alike. And, as everywhere in the Wadden Sea, mind the tides.
