Your partner is kiting, what do you do meanwhile?

While one of you eagerly pumps up the kite, the other stands on the beach and thinks: and what about me now? Three hours of waiting do not have to be a lost afternoon. Around the spots on the Baltic Sea there is more to do than most people think. Here are a few ideas so the two of you both have a lovely day.

Beach chair, a book and simply doing nothing

Lighthouses, harbours and promenades make any wait fly by.

The simplest option is often the nicest. Rent a beach chair, bring a good book, and look out at the water where your person is just carving their lines. Many spots have a promenade for a stroll and a beach bar for coffee afterwards. Pack warm clothes, it is windier at the water than it looks from the car, even in summer.

If you would rather get going

Sitting still is not your thing? Then make the most of the time. Around the big spots there is plenty to do: lighthouses to photograph, little harbours, cycle paths right along the coast, piers to walk on. On Fehmarn, for example, the marine centre and the butterfly park beckon, and in many places the town centre invites you to wander. Three hours are easily enough for a nice loop and an ice cream on top.

When the weather does not play along

In dreary weather, spas and aquariums are worth their weight in gold.

Not every day is a sunny day. For grey hours the Baltic resorts have surprisingly much to offer: spas with a sea view, adventure pools, aquariums and hands-on museums. While the wind whistles outside and the people on the water are still grinning, you sit in the warmth of the sauna. Sounds like a fair deal.

The lovely thing about watersports is that they take along even those who do not want to get on the board themselves. A bit of planning, and the waiting time becomes a real outing. After the session you meet up again at the beach bar and swap the stories of the day. That is exactly how it should be.
