There is hardly anything nicer than stepping out of the camper in the morning, taking a quick look at the wind and standing at the water after three steps. That is exactly why camping and water sports make such a good pair. On the Baltic there are several sites right by the spot, some even with their own school. Here is an overview.
Wake up and onto the water

The big advantage is obvious: you are where the wind is. No driving over, no hunting for a parking spot, and when it suddenly picks up in the afternoon, you are on the water in ten minutes. Add to that the good feeling of being among like-minded people, swapping the day’s stories at the beach bar in the evening. Fehmarn is the motorhome stronghold par excellence, but there are lovely sites all along the coast too.
Sites with a school right on the sand
The sites where the kite or surf school is right there are especially handy. On Fehmarn, for example, Wulfener Hals and Camping Miramar lie right by the spots, both with water sports on the doorstep. On Rügen, the Ostseecamp Suhrendorf at Germany’s largest standing-depth spot is a classic. And at the Salzhaff you stand right by the flat lagoon in Pepelow. Hire gear, book a course, all without any walking.
Motorhome or tent, a few tips

Whether with the big motorhome, the converted van or simply the tent, every option has its charm. A few things make the trip easier: in high season, book ahead, because the sites by the water are popular. Plan for a rubber mat for wet gear and a place to dry it. And think of the off-season, in September and October it is windier, emptier and often cheaper.
Sleeping right by the spot turns a day trip into a real water-sports holiday. Find a site with a short walk to the water, ideally with a school, and enjoy waking up with a view of the waves. Which site suits your favourite spot, we are happy to tell you.
